Samsung unveils Fluid AI Design System, a generative interface concept for One UI

Samsung has revealed the Fluid AI Design System, a Red Dot Design Award 2026-winning concept that imagines a future where AI does not simply live inside apps but becomes the interface itself.

The concept combines an AI agent with a generative user interface that reshapes itself in real time based on the user’s current task, physical surroundings, and context, replacing the static grid of app icons and siloed applications that has defined smartphone interfaces for more than a decade.

Rather than opening separate apps for navigation, calendar events, weather, or messages, information in the Fluid AI concept appears as floating cards that expand, shrink, and rearrange themselves depending on what the user is trying to accomplish. One example shows a meeting reminder naturally paired with available free time and navigation directions; another presents a date picker that morphs into a larger interactive element when the user engages with it.

The system operates on three inputs: what the user is trying to do right now, where they are, and what other information is relevant at that moment — such as time, upcoming events, or recently received messages. Instead of the user adapting to the structure of an operating system, the system reshapes itself around their immediate needs.

Samsung has not confirmed whether Fluid AI Design System will become part of a future version of One UI. Design concepts of this kind rarely ship exactly as shown. However, the concept aligns closely with Samsung’s recent software direction. One UI 8.5, currently rolling out to Galaxy devices, already includes AI-driven features such as Now Nudge, which surfaces contextual suggestions based on what is on the screen, and AI-powered photo editing.

Samsung’s next major software release, the Android 17-based One UI 9, is expected to be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 in London. The company has teased that One UI 9 will introduce “intelligent capabilities and adaptive user experiences,” language that echoes the Fluid AI Design System’s philosophy.

The Fluid AI Design System concept is available on Samsung’s design portfolio and has been showcased at design industry events.
