
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) installed Fariha Abbasi-Feinberg, MD, FAASM, FAAN, as its 2026,2027 president during the organization’s annual membership meeting on June 15.
Who she is
Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg is a board-certified sleep medicine physician and board-certified neurologist based in Fort Myers, Florida, where she serves as medical director of sleep medicine at Millennium Physician Group. She is a Fellow of both the AASM (FAASM) and the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN).
Her professional portfolio includes a recognized national expertise in coding and compliance within sleep medicine, and a special interest in health policy. She previously served on the AASM Foundation Board of Directors from 2019 to 2022 and returned as AASM Foundation Secretary/Treasurer in June 2024 before being elected AASM president-elect in the 2025 election cycle.
Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly Hahnemann University) and has been in clinical practice for more than 20 years.
What it means
The AASM is the largest professional membership organization for sleep medicine clinicians and researchers in the United States, representing more than 12,000 members. The presidency rotates annually, with the incoming president typically outlining priorities that shape the academy’s advocacy, education, and clinical practice guidance for the year ahead.
Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg succeeds Anita V. Shelgikar, MD, MHPE, who served as AASM president for the 2025,2026 term. The 2026 election also saw Vishesh K. Kapur, MD, MPH, elected as the incoming president-elect.
