Ugreen has launched the Max5s, its first serious entry into the over-ear headphone market, and the specifications suggest the company is aiming well above its price point. Priced at 169 yuan, approximately US$25 (roughly £20), the headphones include features typically found on models costing several times more.
The Max5s use 40 mm custom dynamic drivers with a dual-layer PET polymer diaphragm, and support LDAC for high-resolution wireless audio, along with Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. The adaptive active noise cancellation system can reduce ambient noise by up to 45 dB, processing 375,000 calculations per second to adjust to changing environments. Users can choose between five levels of noise isolation, wind noise reduction, and fully adaptive mode. A five-microphone array handles voice pickup during calls.
Battery life is a standout specification: up to 112 hours with ANC off, or 74 hours with ANC active. The 800 mAh battery charges via USB-C and reaches full capacity in roughly two hours. At 238 grams, about 8.4 ounces, the headphones are light enough for extended wear, with protein leather ear cushions and a 90-degree fold-flat design for portability.
Bluetooth 6.0 provides the wireless connection, with dual-device pairing for switching between a phone and laptop. Ugreen has also integrated a built-in AI assistant capable of real-time translation, converting spoken language and routing it directly into the headphones. For users who frequently communicate across languages, the feature eliminates the need to reach for a phone during conversations.
The headphones compete directly with models from established audio brands such as boAt and Lenovo’s gaming lineup, but at a price that undercuts most competitors with similar feature sets. Ugreen, a company better known for charging cables, power adapters, and USB hubs, appears to be applying the same value-oriented strategy to personal audio. The Max5s launched on JD.com in China, with international availability not yet confirmed. Given Ugreen’s global distribution network for its other products, a wider rollout is likely.
